Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between 1-stage and 2-stage polishing?
A 1-stage polish uses one machine polishing step to improve gloss and reduce minor paint imperfections. A 2-stage polish uses a cutting stage followed by a finishing stage, allowing more intensive paint correction and refinement.
When should I choose a 1-stage polish?
Choose a 1-stage polish if your vehicle’s paintwork is generally in good condition but appears slightly dull or has minor swirl marks. It’s suitable for restoring shine without extensive correction.
When do I need a 2-stage cut and polish?
A 2-stage service may be better if your paintwork has noticeable swirl marks, light scratches or dullness that require additional correction and a finishing stage.
Will cut and polish remove all scratches?
No. Machine polishing can reduce or remove some defects in the clear coat, but deep scratches, stone chips and peeling clear coat may require professional paint repair. Results depend on paint condition.
Can machine polishing damage my paint?
Polishing removes a small amount of paint or clear coat. We assess the paintwork and select a suitable polishing approach. Some vehicles with damaged or thin paint may not be suitable for machine correction.
Does polishing remove oxidation?
Machine polishing can improve certain types of surface oxidation and dullness. However, severely deteriorated paint or failing clear coat cannot always be restored through polishing.
Does cut and polish include ceramic protection?
No. Ceramic spray protection is available as an optional extra. Machine polishing improves the appearance of paintwork but does not replace a protective coating.
How often should I polish my car?
Machine polishing should only be carried out when necessary because it removes a small amount of clear coat. Regular washing and suitable paint protection help maintain your vehicle’s finish.
Is a cut and polish suitable for an older vehicle?
It depends on the condition of the paintwork. Older vehicles may benefit from polishing, but paint with peeling clear coat, severe deterioration or insufficient thickness may not be suitable. An assessment is recommended.
Do you inspect and test the paint before polishing?
At Clean Car Perth, we take pride in our workmanship and approach every vehicle with care. Before paint correction, we assess the paintwork and perform a test spot where appropriate to determine the safest and most effective polishing pad and compound.
This allows us to assess how the paint responds, what level of correction is achievable and whether it is safe to proceed on each panel.
Our priority is to achieve the best possible finish while preserving your vehicle’s clear coat. We never remove more paint than necessary.
Optional Extras
Ceramic spray protection, additional paint correction, headlight restoration and interior detailing are available at an additional cost.
All prices are starting rates in AUD. Final pricing depends on vehicle size, paint condition and the amount of correction required. Deep scratches, stone chips and failing clear coat may not be correctable through polishing. Access to water and electricity is required.
